The politics of the petrostate: Mining and LNG in WA

Western Australia’s economy is dominated by mining and LNG - accelerating climate destruction and extreme wealth accumulation. Woodside’s Burrup hub project alone is set to emit more than New Zealand, Ireland, Bolivia and Norway combined (if scope 3 emissions are included). The economic dominance of mining and now LNG has pushed WA politics to the right, as both Liberal and Labor parties have fought to defend the interests of sector, blocking environment protections, Aboriginal rights and more.
